Reading Aloud

Reading aloud is THE ADVERT for reading.

Children need to hear exciting stories that will inspire them to pick up a book.

When should I start?

It is never too early to start reading to children. Research shows that babies, although they do not understand the words, respond to the rhythm and tone of a reader's voice. Over time they learn that the 'special reading voice' is associated with cuddles, closeness and eventually a good story. There is no better way to give a child an introduction to books.

When should I finish?

Never! Keep reading to children until they tell you to stop - if that ever happens. Catch them at the dinner table, put a radio story on - anything!

Keep Reading Aloud!
